Loj Committee Process

WHAT IS THE LOJ COMMITTEE?
The Loj Committee is a group of NUHOC members who have undergone training to become experts on how to run weekend trips at the Loj. The committee is responsible for maintaining and improving the Loj property, alongside ensuring that the Loj remains a safe and fun environment for all visitors.
 –
To become a Loj Committee member (LC), a club member must first become a Loj Committee Trainee (LCT) and complete a list of 26 training requirements. Once their list is completed, the committee will vote the LCT onto the Loj Committee. Each LC earns keys for life to the Loj property, and has the ability to open and close the Loj for weekend trips. LCs then become mentors for the other LCTs, teaching them about the Loj and signing off list items as they complete them.
 –
An LC must be present for all trips to the Loj. If you have any questions about the committee, please reach out to the Loj Committee Chair (LCC) Aidan Ruggles (nuhoc.lcc@gmail.com or via Slack)

HOW DO I BECOME A LOJ COMMITEE TRAINEE?
To become an LC you must first complete the LCT training process. Here are the steps to become an LCT, complete your list, join the Loj Committee, and get keys for life!
  1. Go to the Loj 3 times
    • While camping, hiking, and going on other fun trips out of the Loj, you will begin to decide what the Loj means to you
    • If you want to begin getting more involved with the club, reach out to the Loj Committee Chair (currently Aidan Ruggles) and let them know you would like to become an LCT
  2. Give an LCT Speech at a NUHOC Meeting
    • Once confirmed with the LCC, at the next meeting you will stand in front of the club and give a short speech about why you want to be an LCT.
    • The speech typically involves some breif club history, your reason for becoming an LCT, and a favorite Loj memory. The LCC will give you more detailed instructions beforehand.
  3. Meet with an LC for an LCT Orientation and to get your LCT List
    • You will learn how getting list items signed off works, how the committee is structured, and answer any questions you may have
  4. Start learning list items!
    • Over the next year or two, you will work toward completing the 26 items on your LCT list, learning many leadership & outdoors skills
    • LCs are there to help teach you! Ask tons of questions! They will provide feedback throughout the process to make sure you are learning everything you need to
  5. Once your list is complete, host a dinner for the LCs and LCTs
    • This dinner serves as a culmination of your journey. LCs will vote on your status, and if they believe you are ready to become an LC, you will receive keys to the Loj for life!
  6. You are now an LC! Congrats!
    • As you have proven yourself to be a responsible individual, capable of taking care of the Loj, you gain access to the Loj at any time, forever. You will be able to open the Loj for generations of NUHOCers to come!
