Lodge Committee Process

The Loj Committee is a group of NUHOC members who have dedicated their time and energy to take care of the Loj. They are responsible for maintaining and improving the Loj, supervising weekend trips when needed, and passing on their knowledge and experience to club members. Each Loj Committee member (LC) has worked hard to earn their keys to the Loj for life. Although the original building sadly burned down in 2015, a rebuild process is actively underway right now! NUHOC is always in need of new LCs to spearhead the construction efforts, carry the club forward, and run the Loj now and in the future. Any Northeastern student can become a member of the Loj Committee. While venturing forth on your journey to become an LC, you will complete the following steps:
  1. Go to the Loj three times. While camping, hiking, and going on other fun trips out of the Loj, you will begin to decide what the Loj means to you. If you want to begin getting more involved with the club, you will reach out to the Loj Committee Chair (currently James Roth) and let them know.
  2. Your next step on the LC path is to become a Loj Committee Trainee, or LCT. At an upcoming NUHOC meeting, you will discuss some club history, share why you want to become an LCT, answer some lighthearted questions, and provide a small gift of your choosing to support Loj operations.
  3. Over the next year or two, you will work toward completing your LCT list. This list contains 25 items to learn that are each important for Loj operations. While completing these list items, you will develop leadership and planning skills and gain proficiency with outdoors techniques like log-splitting and fire-making. Along the way, LCs will help you learn the ins and outs of what it means to be a Loj Committee member.
  4. After completing your LCT list, the final step is to host a dinner for current LCTs and LCs. This dinner serves as a culmination of your journey. LCs will vote on your status, and if they believe you are ready to become an LC, you will receive keys to the Loj for life!
  5. As you have proven yourself to be a responsible individual, capable of taking care of the Loj, you gain access to the Loj at any time, forever. You will be able to open the Loj for generations of NUHOCers to come!
